Smile Direct Club Overview
We’ll quickly explain, before we jump into the reviews, in case you’re not too familiar with how Smile Direct works.
To get started with your treatment, you have two options. One is to order, online, your impression kit. Making treatment 100% remote, your kit is delivered to you at home, so on your own, you can take impressions of your teeth and send them back in.
The other option is having a trained representative take 3D scans of your teeth by going to a physical Smile Direct location known as a Smile Shop.
Your treatment plan will be made by a dentist or an orthodontist after analyzing your teeth, whichever option you choose. Then at once, you’ll receive all of your aligner trays in the mail. Your dentist or orthodontist will monitor your treatment remotely once you begin.
Let’s look at some reviews now that you’ve caught up on how it works!
Smile Direct Club Reviews
Smile Direct Club reviews may be biased.
You may notice that many of the reviewers also list SDC promotion information as you are reading the reviews of Smile Direct Club.
If anything, it demonstrates transparency on their end and does not necessarily mean that they aren’t honest in their reviews.
We’ve done our best to provide both negative and positive reviews in this article that seem honest and based on actual experiences, that being said, it falls on you to always consider reviews with a grain of salt.
Crystal’s review: positive and negative sides of Smile Direct Club
“YAY! I can already tell that my teeth have shifted and gotten straighter – and I’m only about 12% done with my treatment plan!”
Crystal, a blogger, shares her experience with Smile Direct Club and we begin our review with her.
A note at the top of her Smile Direct Review blog post review says:
“All opinions are 100% my own. This post is sponsored by Smile Direct Club and contains affiliate links.”
She goes on to describe her first month of wearing her aligners:
Crystal has always been self-conscious about her crooked teeth and never had braces as a child.
She was pleasantly surprised that she only experienced mild discomfort from the aligners in the first month because she recalls mentally preparing herself for a rough time at the beginning. She loves many things about her aligners, specifically:
- They are less expensive than other clear aligners
- In-office appointments are not required
- They are removable
What she doesn’t like about them is that:
- When you eat/drink, you have to take them out
- Lipstick smudges them
- They feel unclean
- Her sppech isn’t as clear
Crystal hadn’t finished her Smile Direct Club journey as of the time the blog post was written, but she said that she would recommend going to a local shop for an in-office scan of your teeth rather than doing it at home. Having a second opinion from your orthodontist before beginning treatment with SDC braces was also recommend in the blog. And she added a note that these aligners won’t correct other severe cases of malocclusion or sever overbites.
Chelsea’s review: A mom’s take on Smile Direct Club
With a disclaimer, Blogger Chelsea also receives her Smile Direct Club review.
Positive blog post reviews on Smile Direct Club are plenty
“This post contains affiliate links. I received free product in exchange for this post.”
After she got her braces off when she wore them as a kid, Chelsea didn’t continue to wear her retainers. So it caused her teeth to be crooked again. Until she decided to try Smile Direct Club braces, she hadn’t gotten them fixed due to high cost of braces. She said, from a mon’s point of view:
“For mons to straighten their smile from home, Smile Direct Club is the easiest way”
Rom the before and after pictures she posts, you can see that her teeth have become a bit straighter; she highly recommends SDC. What she loves most about SDC is that:
- You don’t have to schedule appointments with orthodontists
- The kit that arrives in the mail is well-organized and easy to understand
- They are discreet
- They are easy
- They are affordable
Though she mentions some cons about SDC which includes:
- Even when you eat, aligners had to be taken off
- In case something goes wrong, ther is no in-person access to an orthodontist
- They can hurt
Chelsea says she is very happy with her results after she had finished her treatment with SDC.
Darlene’s review: You get what you pay for
Darlene is the next to have her Smile Direct Club review presented here. To fix overcrowding in both her bottom and top teeth, Darlene was assigned a six-month treatment plan by Smile Direct Club. However only three month of the process was completed by her.
Going back to the beginning, since it is advertised as being quick and affordable, she chose SDC.
AFter asking her dentist about SDC, her dentist said that they don’t fix sever jaw alignment problems but that they have seen SDC straighten teeth. The representative from SDC also told her that they don’t fix sever overbites or underbites, but that they do straighten teeth, during her first appointment with them.
Calmed by the fact that part of SDC’s policy is that a dentist will supervise the process, she figured it would be OK to go through with it since Darlene just wanted her teeth straightened. However, she had more severe jaw alignment problems that could actually create more issues and she did not realize this at first.
When her bite alignment seemed to be getting worse, she became concerned during the process of the treatment. She reached out to the customer service of Smile Direct Club (she was happy with her customer service experience overall). They offered to review her situation and gave her another free consultation and scan.
Customer service made sure she received a partial refund, and they were understanding and empathetic to her situation. She recommends consulting with your dentist or orthodontist before trying at-home braces and concludes her review by saying that “you get what you pay for”.
HelloTous’s review: High-tech and on-point
With his experience so far, this SDC customer is definitely happy. Because it was free for him and the customer service is great, he recommends going into a physical Smile Shop location.
“If you want to have a free consultation, digital scans and – if you’re lucky – a goody bag all of your own, remember, you can locate your nearest Smile Shop here.”
Since he was expecting to wait much longer, it was great that his aligners got delivered to him only two and a half weeks after he got his impressions made.
